Early Life and Education
Phillip Dorsett was born on January 5, 1993, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he excelled as a two-sport athlete in football and track. His exceptional speed and agility made him a standout wide receiver and sprinter, contributing significantly to his high school's athletic reputation.
Dorsett played collegiate football at the University of Miami from 2011 to 2014. As a freshman in 2011, he appeared in 12 games and compiled 14 receptions for 147 yards and one touchdown. His breakout season came in 2012, when he started 10 of 12 games and led the Hurricanes with 58 receptions for 842 yards and four touchdowns. Despite injuries in 2013, he returned strong in 2014, showcasing his deep-threat ability with an average of over 24 yards per catch and 10 touchdowns that season.
Phillip Dorsett was selected 29th overall in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. During his rookie season, he recorded 18 receptions for 225 yards and one touchdown. Although he showed flashes of potential, Dorsett struggled to find a consistent role in the Colts' offense.
In 2017, Dorsett was traded to the New England Patriots in exchange for quarterback Jacoby Brissett. With the Patriots, Dorsett contributed as a depth receiver and played a role during their Super Bowl LIII-winning season. He remained with New England through the 2019 season, demonstrating steady performance and versatility within the Patriots' offensive unit.
