Poppy Montgomery is an Australian-American actress who is best known for her portrayal of FBI agent Samantha Spade on the CBS mystery television series Without a Trace. Poppy Montgomery was born Poppy Petal Emma Elizabeth Deveraux Donaghue on June 15, 1972, in Sydney, Australia. Poppy is one of six children, five girls that were all named after flowers (Poppy, Rosie, Daisy, Lily, and Marigold), and a brother, Jethro Tull, who was named after the rock band of the same name. Poppy did not fare well in school and was expelled from six private academies before dropping out at the age of fifteen.
Poppy immigrated to the U.S. when she was eighteen, moved to Los Angeles, and aggressively pursued being an actress. She had some minor television roles in the 1990’s but her first big break came in 2001 when she earned the role of Marilyn Monroe in the CBS mini-series Blonde. Poppy met actor Adam Kaufman in 2005 while they were both working on an independent film. She became pregnant with his child in 2007 and they had a son named Jackson Phillip. The couple separated in 2011 and Poppy began Shawn Sanford, an American businessman, and the couple had two children, Violet Grace in 2013, and Gus Monroe in 2014. The couple was married at Disneyland in late 2014.
