Precious Lee is a plus sized model from Atlanta, Georgia. Her father, Rudy, is a cosmetologist and has been doing hair for over fifty years. He has owned seven different salons and run two cosmetology schools. Rudy has also cut the hair of celebrities including the American singer Chaka Khan. Her mother is a formal model and educator and now serves as Lee’s manager. Lee’s first contact with modeling was during an open call that her friend took her to. Lee began getting odd modeling jobs around Atlanta and doing some catalog work. In August of 2015, Precious Lee became the first black, plus-sized model to ever appear in American Vogue. In 2016, Lee made history as being the first black, plus-size model featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Albeit, it was via a Lane Bryant ad, which featured Lee lying down on her side, with cropped hair, in a white bikini, and not part of the swimsuit editorial. Precious Lee has spent nine years in the modeling industry and is currently under contract with IMG. After moving to New York City in 2013, Lee has modeled for Christian Siriano at New York Fashion Week, and Addition Elle. In addition, Lee has done work for more mainstream retailers like Old Navy, Nordstrom, and Target.
