Richard Madden was previously in a relationship with actress Jenna Coleman. Although the couple was reportedly serious, they ultimately parted ways. He has also been linked to television presenter Laura Whitmore and actress Emilia Clarke, though the latter relationship has not been publicly confirmed by either party.

There have been public rumors regarding Madden's sexuality, particularly surrounding speculation about him being gay.
