Robert Todd Pelinka Jr. was born on December 23, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois. Rob Pelinka was born to a father named Robert Todd Pelinka Sr. His father was a former high school basketball coach who showed him the basics of fundamental basketball skills.
He studied in Lake Forest School in Illinois for his primary school education. His high school education was completed at Lake Forest High School. Rob Pelinka landed his first huge gig when he became Kobe Bryant's agent. He was also the president and CEO of The Landmark Sports Agency, LLC. He has represented numerous players who have been top-14 picks since the 2003 NBA draft, including two at the 2010 NBA draft and second overall 2011 NBA draft choice Derrick Williams. In the 2012 NBA draft, he represented Dion Waiters and Andre Drummond who were chosen fourth and ninth respectively.
He was formerly Kevin Durant's agent and had been associated with a controversial negotiation as Carlos Boozer's agent. When Carlos Boozer was eligible for his second contract, Pelinka orchestrated a move that made Boozer betray the team that drafted him, the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs selected Boozer in the second round, giving the team an option to make him a restricted free agent. As a restricted free agent, the Cavs would have the ability to match any contract offer made to Boozer. They came to an agreement that they would remove the restricted tag off Boozer so that he could earn more money with them. He ended up turning his back on the Cavs and signing a new deal with the Utah Jazz and all of the shady behavior was blame don his agent, Rob Pelinka.
Pelinka is currently in a 5-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 million dollars.
