Ron Cochran was an American television news journalist who was born on September 20, 1912, in Saskatchewan, Canada and died on July 25, 1994, in Lake Worth, Florida of a heart attack. He grew up in Iowa and his full name is Ronald V. Cochran. He went on to attend Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa and upon graduating began working in Midwest radio stations. Cochran worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for two years and then worked for a Boston radio station in 1945.

Cochran was hired by CBS in 1951 where he worked in Washington in both television and radio. After some time with CBS, he moved on to WCBS-TV where he worked on its 11 p.m. news program. Cochran is perhaps best recognized for serving as the anchor of the "The ABC Evening News with Ron Cochran" from 1962 to 1965. During this time, he worked as ABC's principal anchor for the network's coverage of the John F. Kennedy assassination in 1963. While ABC's rival network expanded their evening news programming to a half-hour, "ABC Evening News" remained only 15 minutes long while Cochran was its host. Cochran is also known for hosting the CBS drama television series "Armstrong Circle Theatre". He married Beulah Tracht and the pair remained together for 56 years until his death in 1994. The couple had a son named Ronald W. Cochran, and a daughter named Judith Cochran-Smith.
