Roseanne Barr is an American actress and comedian known for her stand up who came to fame with the television series Roseanne. Roseanne depicted the life of the fictional Conner family and starred Roseanne, John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf; Roseanne Barr was awarded with an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her performances on the show. Roseanne Cherrie Barr was born on November 3, 1962, in Salt Lake City, Utah. When Barr was sixteen she was hit by a car and suffered a traumatic brain injury for which she was institutionalized for eight months. Barr left home in 1970, telling her parents she was going to Colorado to visit friends, and she never returned.
Roseanne started performing stand-up in Colorado and in 1974 married Bill Pentland, a motel clerk. The couple was married for sixteen years and had three children: Jessica, Jennifer, and Jake. Four days after her divorce from Pentland, Roseanne married comedian Tom Arnold; the couple was divorced in 1994 citing irreconcilable differences. The following year, Barr married security guard Ben Thomas; she became pregnant through in-vitro fertilization and they had a son they named Buck. Barr and Thomas were together until 2002 when she went to live on a macadamia nut farm on the big island of Hawaii with Johnny Argent.
