Sara Ramírez is a Mexican-American actress, singer, and songwriter, best known for her work on stage and television. She was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Her father is Mexican, and her mother is of Irish-American descent. When she was eight years old, her parents divorced, and she moved with her mother to Tierrasanta, a neighborhood in San Diego, California.
Ramírez attended the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, where her passion for performance grew. She later moved to New York City to study at the Juilliard School, refining her skills in acting and vocal performance. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she began her professional career while still at Juilliard, originating the role of Wahzinak in Paul Simon’s Broadway musical, The Capeman.
