Early Life

A half-Indian and half-English descent, Choudhury was born in Blackheath, London, England, on 18 August 1966 and grew up in the city. She was born to Julia Patricia, who was of English descent, and Prabhas Chandra Choudhury, who was of Indian descent. Her parents were married in 1964 in Lucea, Jamaica, to each other. She attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, where she majored in economics and film. The Choudhury family consists of two brothers: Kumar Michael Choudhury, her younger brother, and Chandra Paul Choudhury, her older brother.

Career

As a supporting actress in American and international films and television shows since the late 1990s and continuing to the present day, Choudhury has built up an impressive body of work, beginning with the thriller A Perfect Murder (1998), followed by the crime drama 3 A.M. (2001), and the John Cassavetes remake Gloria (1999). In 2002, she appeared in the film Just a Kiss. She starred as a lesbian virgin in Spike Lee's 2004 film She Hate Me and as Anna Ran in M. Night Shyamalan's 2006 thriller Lady in the Water, in which she played Anna Ran. Previously, she appeared as Egeria in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015) and in the 2016 film A Hologram for the King, in which she co-starred with Tom Hanks. In 2021, Choudhury joined the cast of HBO Max's Sex and the City revival television series And Just Like That..., in which she played the role of Manhattan real estate broker Seema Patel, a powerhouse figure in the city's real estate market.

Choudhury made her screen acting debut in the 1991 film Mississippi Masala, in which she co-starred with Denzel Washington and was awarded a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) card. In order to make ends meet while the film was in theaters, she continued her waitressing job in Manhattan's East Village. Following the success of her debut film Mississippi Masala, Choudhury went on to play a Pakistani country-western singer in Wild West (1992), a Chilean maid who is raped in Bille August's adaptation of The House of the Spirits, and a lesbian mother in Fresh Kill.

The role of Dr. Kalyani, a medical examiner, was played by Choudhury on the television series Homicide: Life on the Street during the 1998–1999 season. In the NBC drama Kings, Choudhury portrayed Helen Pardis, the King's mistress, who was killed by the King. This television series was based on the biblical story of King David, but it was set in the modern era. Rizpah, a concubine of King Saul, was the Biblical counterpart to her character's story.

Sona Jain, an independent film director, collaborated with her on the film For Real. The following is what she said in an interview with The Statesman: "Following Mississippi Masala and Kama Sutra, I began receiving offers to perform in New York, including offers to perform in theaters. I simply went with the flow. I realized one day that I hadn't been back to India in a long time, that I hadn't shot there, and that it was something I really wanted to do. There were offers from Bollywood, but it wasn't until Sona's script that I began to consider working in India." In September 2010, the film was released in theaters nationwide.

In the television series Homeland, she portrays Mira Berenson, the wife of the main character Saul Berenson. In 2011, she starred in the British-French television series Death in Paradise, which was produced jointly by the two countries. Choudhury also appeared in the 2013 comedy Admission, where he made a brief cameo. In the films The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015), she played President Snow's personal assistant, Egeria, in the role of President Snow. The American crime drama Blindspot featured her in the role of Sophia Varma, Deputy White House Political Director, which she played in both 2015 and 2016.

Personal Life

The off-screen affair or marriage of Sarita Choudhury is something she takes very personally, and she takes it very seriously. Her husband or daughter are always brought up as topics of conversation, but she is never in the mood to speak about them. There is currently no information available about her husband's identity. The fact that her husband is a war photographer has been confirmed, and there is no connection between the industry in which she works and the industry in which her husband is involved.
