Early Life and Background

Sayaka Akimoto was born on July 26, 1988, in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. She comes from a multicultural background, with a Japanese father and a Filipino mother. Although little is publicly known about her early childhood and family life, Akimoto displayed a strong passion for performance from a young age. During her high school years, she actively participated in auditions, pursuing her dream of becoming an entertainer.

Career with AKB48 and Sub-Unit DiVA

In April 2006, Sayaka Akimoto became a member of the idol group AKB48. She was assigned to Team K, where she quickly gained recognition for her leadership skills and stage presence. In 2009, she performed with her bandmates at the "Yomiuri Shimbun's 135th Anniversary Concert," one of the group's notable early events.

During the group’s internal restructuring in 2012, Akimoto was replaced by Yuko Oshima as the captain of Team K as part of a team shuffle. In addition to her main role in AKB48, Akimoto was also a member of the sub-unit DiVA, under the Avex record label, which showcased a more mature and dance-oriented image.

Television and Media Appearances

Between 2010 and 2012, Akimoto was a regular host on the popular Japanese variety show “Waratte Iitomo.” She also took part in AKB48’s anime project "AKB0048," offering her voice talents alongside fellow members. Beyond these, she appeared on Fuji TV's program “Morita Kazuya Hour: Waratte Koraete!”

In 2011, Akimoto participated in the Tokyo Marathon, demonstrating her commitment to personal challenges and charitable causes. In 2015, she was invited as a special guest to "A Gathering of the President and the Philippine Community in Japan," an event hosted by Philippine President Benigno Aquino III. Around this time, she also served as a narrator in the Japanese-Filipino television collaboration drama "Halo Halo House: Jose’s Nippon Diary," aired on PTV-4 and Nippon TV.

Transition to Acting Career

Sayaka Akimoto began focusing more on her acting career after graduating from AKB48 in 2013. In 2014, she played the role of Arakawa Eia in the movie “Tokyo Slaves.” The following year, she appeared in several films, including “Galaxy Turnpike,” “Mango to Akai Kurumaisu,” and the fantasy-action movie “BIKUU.”

Her television drama credits include appearances in "Senkan Yamato no Curry Rice," "Kouncho Kohiya Koyomi," "Discover Dead," and “Orange: 1.17 Inochigake de Tatakatta Shobōshi no Tamashii no Monogatari.” She also had roles in earlier series such as "Taiga Drama Daisakusen," "Hosou Hakubutsukan Kikiippatsu," and "Asadora Satsujin Jiken," in which she played Niimi Miho. In 2016, she portrayed Chiaki Yoshinogo in the drama “Sumika Sumire.”
