Early Relationship and Marriage to Dwyane Wade

Siohvaughn Funches and Dwyane Wade were childhood friends who grew up in the South Side of Chicago. They began dating at the age of 15. As teenagers, Wade often spent significant time at Funches' home due to a turbulent household environment, which included his mother’s struggles with substance abuse and his father's strict parenting style. According to Funches, Wade was shy and reserved during his youth, with a limited social circle.

The couple married in 2002 and later moved to Chicago. Not long after their marriage, Wade was drafted into the NBA, signing a multi-year contract with the Miami Heat, which introduced major changes to their personal life and increased media attention.

Marital Challenges and Divorce

Following Dwyane Wade's rise to fame in professional basketball, the couple faced growing challenges. Siohvaughn reported growing emotional distance and allegations of infidelity arose, often fueled by anonymous calls from women claiming relationships with her husband. Despite the birth of their second son, their marriage continued to deteriorate.

Funches filed for divorce in 2007, and the divorce was finalized in 2010. As part of the settlement, she received $5 million, according to public records. Custody disputes followed, with Wade ultimately being awarded full custody of their two sons. Funches later sought modifications to the settlement and custody arrangements in 2015, citing concerns over her children's welfare. However, the court maintained the custody decision in favor of Wade. During a transitional period, she was temporarily restricted from seeing her sons to allow them to adjust to living with their father.
