Timothy was captivated by sports from an early age and went on to play college football. His family upbringing was defined by him as “strict”, which led him to look into joining the Army when he graduated from high school. His father also identified as a sports person, teaching his son many different sports and even yoga. Timothy took part in many school sporting events but it is not known if he received any awards for achievements he may have had during his high school years.

Timothy quickly passed both physical and mental tests given for entry into the United States Army. He held the rank of first sergeant (1SG) and was given administrative duties in addition to leading a battalion force. Timothy quickly assumed the role of a fatherly figurehead in his department. To Timothy, joining the army and having such an excellent position and duties was a dream come true.

After several years of service, he met his future wife, Darlene Renee Flowers, of African American and Bahamian background. Timothy himself was from an Irish background. He and Darlene started off as friends, and Timothy was worried about his inability to give her a lot of his time as his job was very demanding. However, Darlene was patient, and she was able to recognize the importance of his role and his passion for it. Timothy was pleased by the fact that Darlene was able to deal with what he felt was a relationship stressor. Their relationship as friends developed into a dating relationship and soon afterwards, a marriage.

Marriage life seemed to move smoothly for the couple; Timothy continued his job with the Army and Darlene took a job as a security officer. Timothy spent much of his time away at camps conducting military training and giving back to his country. In between his time in the army and his being home with his wife he was able to produce a total of four children. His first two children are the well-known sisters who became TV stars, Tia and Tamera. His third child was his first sonTahj Mowry, later followed by his second son, Tavior Mowry. Tahj Mowry acted in the show “Baby Daddy,” but his last son, Tavior, did not pursue a career in acting and instead went on to play football for the University of California.

Timothy Mowry’s duties called him away from his family for extended periods of time, leaving Darlene alone to provide most of the care for their children. Timothy tried hard to be there when needed and always left his impression on his children when he was home. Timothy wanted to teach his children things like discipline, kindness, and the other Christian values that he grew up with and valued highly. While Timothy and Darlene consider that they have brought up their children in a modern way they have both felt that they also instilled in them good manners. In part, their choice in supporting their children was a part of the same dream Timothy had chased, and he wanted his children to be able to experience the same joy that he had enjoyed.
