Later Timothy took a position in California to help their two daughters pursue their acting career. He felt it was the right decision and accepted a placement with the Glendale police force, working as a custodial officer. His position is not currently known whether or not if he still works with the police force as his career has stayed wholly hidden from the media. They had long thought about the acting positions of their daughters and had decided to at least give it a try; in 1990 they moved to California to give it test period of a month. However, things worked out well for their daughters, and they decided to stay long-term. “Sister, Sister” premiered on April 1, 1994 and aired for six seasons. The show is considered iconic and revolved around the story of twins being separated at birth and reunited as teenagers.
Racial discrimination did not seem to be a part of Timothy and Darlene’s marriage; it appeared that Timothy’s job serving in the Army had insulated them this as racial slurs and segregation were not tolerated amongst military families, nor was the slander of spouses or others. Hence, it was shocking to them to witness the hatred that their daughter, Tamera, faced upon her marriage to a White man, Arthur Adam Housley. Tamera referred to being called “a white man’s whore” during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Tamera has been quoted “I wasn’t raised to see color; I was raised to see character. When my Mom found out that I was dating a White man, she said, ‘Listen, I went through a lot and I want to make sure you love this man, because it’s not easy.’ You’ll face scrutiny. So make sure you guys are in this together and make sure you understand what you will face’’ She goes on to say “I said, ‘Mom, what are you talking about? It’s 2005. People aren’t going to care.’ But she was right. I look at my parents and I think. Wow, they must be really strong because what they’ve been through is one hundred times worse than what we’ve gone through“. Tamera recalled their family as being functional and a “happy family of six growing beyond the race restrictions.” Her sister, Tia, avoided much of the racial stereotyping suffered by her sister when she married Cory Hardrict, a Black man, as she stayed within what some thought was the correct racial segregation. Tamera recently said in an interview “I think the criticism is even worse now, with the racial tension that we’re seeing and the political climate. But my husband, who is so great, said, ‘You know what Tamera? This is just teaching you to focus on the thousands of people that are for you, as opposed to the very few people who are against you.’ He’s right.”
Both of Tia’s and Tamara’s parents, despite their children’s fame, have wanted to keep their lives as private as possible. Timothy and Darlene keep their private lives, as much as is possible, out from the glare of the media spotlight. However, despite their penchant for privacy, Timothy’s accomplishments for his service with the United States Military are well known and shared. His children seem to be very proud of his achievements. Timothy raised his children under the religion of Christianity. Living a private life has not left Timothy completely out of the sensation created by the popular television show as Timothy has appeared as a guest on his daughter's show on rare occasions.
While Timothy is a private person, his two daughters are much less so, posting on Facebook and Twitter; sharing their experiences in acting, life, and school. It is presumed, since his children have not stated anything negative, that their parent’s marriage runs smoothly without affairs or violence. Tia, Tamera, and Tahj have all been relatively open with their romantic relationships and have tried little to hide their lives from social media or the news.
Timothy’s family continues to grow; he has a total of three grandchildren, Cree, Aden, and Ariah who he enjoys spending time with. He also has a good relationship with his sons in law, Cory Hardrict and Adam Housley.
