Tamera Darvetter Mowry Housley was born on July 6, 1978 in Gelnhausen, Germany. She and her identical twin sister, Tia were born to Darlene Renee Mowry and Timothy John Mowry. Tamera Mowry is the older twin by two minutes. Her father has Irish ancestry, and her mother is of Afro-Bahamian descent. Mowry's parents met in high school, in Miami, Florida, both joining the U.S. Army, and both eventually reaching the rank of sergeant. Darlene then worked as a security guard and managed Tamera and Tias acting careers.

Mowry has described her family as being both "close-knit" and "deeply religious", The sisters became born-again Christians when they were eight years old. She also has two younger brothers named Tahj Mowry, an actor, and Tavior Mowry, who played college football for the University of California, Davis.

Marriage, Husband, and Kids

Tamera married Fox News correspondent, Adam Housley on May 15, 2011, in California's Napa Valley. They tied the knot after dating for almost six years. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Aden John Tanner Housley, on November 12, 2012. On January 4, 2015, Tamera announced through social media that she was expecting her second child, a girl, due July 2015. The couple welcomed their daughter, Ariah Talea Housley on July 1, 2015.

Tamera has spoken about some of the negativity she has experienced in response to her interracial marriage. Her husband, Adam encouraged her to focus on the positive things in her life and those who support her rather than those who criticize her. Tamera credits how she was raised in a biracial home as playing a large role in how she handles unwanted comments, “I wasn’t raised to see color, I was raised to see the character. When my mom found out that I was dating a white man, she said, ‘Listen, I went through a lot and I want to make sure you love this man, because it’s not easy. You’ll face scrutiny. So make sure that you guys are in this together and make sure you understand what you will face.’ ”
