While working as a cop in Chicago, Wilkos was contacted for a temporary position in The Jerry Springer Show. Steve enjoyed the work so much that he decided to quit the police force to join the TV show for a full-time role in 2001. He also had his program called The Steve Wilkos Show.
He became involved in many more talk shows, and he was a favorite of the viewing audience because of his police enforcement personality. Wilkos hosted many shows that took a stand against corruption, substance abuse, and crime. This earned him several awards, such as The Prism Award. The more popular he became, the more he was invited to other talk shows. He was featured in an Austin Powers movie, and his voice was also on an episode of The Simpsons.
Wilkos has routine exercises and workouts to keep fit. He loves doing the bench press exercise, and he says he can do an average of 240 pounds now, even though Wilkos used to do up to 300 when he was pretty younger. Wilkos now focuses more on cardiovascular exercises to keep fit and prevent gaining excess weight as he grows older.
Working out is necessary for Wilkos as he cannot even leave for work without going to the gym. The importance he attaches to exercising has made him an avid consumer of the latest gym equipment on the market. One of Wilkos' favorite gym equipment is the rowing machine. Wilkos enjoys working out so much, and he decided to own a gym in the Fairfield County area of Connecticut. His wife joins him at the gym when she has free time.
