Teddy Bridgewater was born in 1992 in Miami, Florida. He is the youngest of four siblings and the son of Rose Murphy. He attended Miami Northwestern High School, where he played football and showed early promise as a quarterback. During his sophomore year, he played behind Jacory Harris but eventually took over as starting quarterback, becoming a leader of the team.

He also rushed for 223 yards and scored eight rushing touchdowns. In the 6A state semifinals, he lost to Miami Central 42–27, despite throwing for over 436 yards and four touchdowns.
