Early Life and Education

Teddy Bridgewater was born in 1992 in Miami, Florida. He is the youngest of four siblings and the son of Rose Murphy. He attended Miami Northwestern High School, where he played football and showed early promise as a quarterback. During his sophomore year, he played behind Jacory Harris but eventually took over as starting quarterback, becoming a leader of the team.

College Career at Louisville

Bridgewater played college football at the University of Louisville, where he majored in Sports Administration. He was a four-star recruit and ranked as the sixth-best dual-threat quarterback prospect by Rivals.com. He was also selected to participate in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

As a freshman, Bridgewater began the 2011 season as a backup but took over as starter during the fourth game against Marshall. He finished the season completing 191 of 296 passes for 2,129 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. His performance earned him Big East Rookie of the Year honors and freshman All-America recognition from Sporting News, CBS Sports, Scout.com, and Rivals.com.

Breakout and Injury Challenges

In his sophomore year (2012), Bridgewater started 11 of 12 regular-season games. Despite suffering a wrist injury in the final conference game against Rutgers, he came off the bench to lead Louisville to victory, securing the Big East title and a berth in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS).

During his senior year in high school, Bridgewater recorded 22 touchdowns and 2,606 passing yards. However, his season was partially limited due to a medial collateral ligament injury. He also rushed for 223 yards and scored eight rushing touchdowns. In the 6A state semifinals, he lost to Miami Central 42–27, despite throwing for over 436 yards and four touchdowns.

2014 NFL Draft and Professional Career with the Minnesota Vikings

Bridgewater was selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. This marked the beginning of his professional football career in the National Football League (NFL) as a quarterback. He quickly became a notable figure for the Vikings and gained national attention for his poise and skill on the field.

Family and Personal Life

Bridgewater holds a degree in Sports Administration from the University of Louisville. His mother, Rose Murphy, is a cancer survivor and has been a significant influence in his life. In 2014, as a gesture of appreciation and lifelong dream, Bridgewater gifted her a pink Cadillac Escalade shortly after being drafted—an act that attracted widespread media attention.

Bridgewater has been in a long-term relationship with Erika Cardona, whom he met during his freshman year. Cardona, a kindergarten teacher, relocated with him to the Twin Cities during his time with the Vikings.
