Terry J. Dubrow was born on September 14, 1958. He grew up in Los Angeles, California, alongside his brother Kevin Dubrow, who was the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Quiet Riot. Dubrow pursued an academic path in medicine, earning a medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. He also holds a master's degree in medical sciences from Yale University.
