She was born in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, to Yolanda Miranda Mange and Ernesto Sodi Pallares. Her mother, an academic painter, served as her manager from 1980 to 1999, while her father was a pathologist, criminologist, police scientist, and occasional writer. Tragically, Thalía lost her father to diabetes in 1977 when she was just six years old, a loss that deeply affected her and led to a temporary period of speech loss, believed to be due to post-traumatic stress.
