The Miz is an American professional wrestler, actor, and television personality. He is well known for his successful transition from reality television to a prominent career in WWE.
Michael Gregory Mizanin was born on October 8, 1980, in Parma, Ohio. During high school, he was actively involved in student government and participated in basketball, swimming, and cross-country. He later attended Miami University in Ohio, where his path to fame began in 2001 when he joined the cast of MTV's reality series The Real World: Back to New York. His growing interest in entertainment prompted him to leave college and pursue opportunities in television more seriously.
Michael began his professional wrestling journey in 2003 under the ring name "The Miz" with the California-based promotion Ultimate Pro Wrestling. The following year, he gained wider exposure by competing on WWE's reality competition Tough Enough, where the winner earned a $1 million WWE contract. Although he did not win, his performance impressed WWE officials, leading to a developmental deal that launched his WWE career.
The Miz captured his first WWE title on November 16, 2007, when he and John Morrison defeated MVP and Matt Hardy to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. The duo held the titles for several months before losing them to Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins in July 2008. They rebounded by winning the World Tag Team Championship from CM Punk and Kofi Kingston in December, though they eventually lost the titles to The Colóns in February 2009.
During the 2009 WWE Draft, The Miz was moved to the Raw brand, ending his partnership with Morrison. He quickly found success on his own, winning the United States Championship on October 5, 2009, by defeating Kofi Kingston. In February 2010, The Miz formed a tag team with Big Show, known as "ShoMiz", and they achieved notable victories over groups like The Straight Edge Society (CM Punk and Luke Gallows) and D-Generation X (Triple H and Shawn Michaels).
Throughout his WWE tenure, The Miz has held multiple championships, including the WWE Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and various tag team titles, establishing himself as one of the company's most consistent and charismatic performers. In September 2019, he challenged Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Title at Clash of Champions. Despite his efforts, The Miz lost the match due in part to interference from Nakamura’s ally, Sami Zayn.
The Miz is married to Maryse Ouellet, a fellow WWE performer and manager. The two had an on-screen and off-screen relationship for several years before getting engaged in 2013. They were married on February 20, 2014, in the Bahamas. On March 27, 2018, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Monroe Sky Mizanin. The couple has appeared together on WWE programming and co-star in the reality series Miz & Mrs., which offers a glimpse into their personal and professional lives.
