Thuy Trang was known as a Vietnamese-born American actress. She was most famous for her role as Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger in the popular children television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Background

Thuy Trang was born on December 14, 1973 in Saigon, Vietnam. After the fall of Saigon in 1975 to Communist powers, her father who had battled in the Vietnam War, headed out to America to look for political refuge. In 1979, Thuy and her family boarded a freight transport with other refugees to make a trip to America. First they cruised to a confinement camp in Hong Kong before making it to the United States. The family was finally reunited at California in 1980.

Thuy graduated from Banning High School and earned a scholarship; to study architecture at UC Irvine.

Career

After her father passed away from a disease in 1992, Thuy got interested in an acting career to get her mind off things. In 1993, she got her first huge break when she handled the role of "Trini Kwan" on the hit TV series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. In 1994, Thuy left the show to pursue different projects.

Personal Life

Trang died in a tragic car accident on September 3, 2001 near San Francisco at the young age of 27.
