Thuy Trang was a Vietnamese-born American actress best known for her role as Trini Kwan, the original Yellow Ranger, in the hit children's television series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."
Thuy Trang was born on December 14, 1973, in Saigon, South Vietnam (now Ho Chi Minh City). Following the fall of Saigon in 1975, her father—an officer in the South Vietnamese army—fled to the United States to seek political asylum. In 1979, Trang, her mother, and siblings undertook a perilous journey to reunite with him. They traveled by boat as refugees, enduring a stay in a Hong Kong detention camp before finally arriving in California in 1980, where the family was reunited.
Trang attended Banning High School in Wilmington, California. She was awarded a scholarship to study civil engineering at the University of California, Irvine, where she initially pursued an academic path before shifting her focus to acting.
In 1993, Thuy Trang made her acting debut on television by landing a lead role in "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." Portraying Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger, she became one of the first Asian-American female superheroes on American television. Her performance earned her recognition and a dedicated fan base. She left the series in 1994 after one season amid cast changes due to contract disputes and a desire to explore new opportunities.
