Tony Danza, born Antonio Salvatore Iadanza on April 21, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American actor known for his work in television and film. His mother was a bookkeeper, and his father worked as a trash collector. Raised in a working-class family, Danza attended the University of Dubuque in Iowa on a wrestling scholarship and earned a bachelor's degree in history education.

Boxing Career

Before achieving fame as an actor, Tony Danza pursued a brief career as a professional boxer under the nickname "Dangerous" Tony Danza. Competing as a middleweight, he fought in the New York Golden Gloves in 1975. He compiled an impressive record of 9 wins and 3 losses, with all nine victories coming by knockout—seven of them in the first round.

Television Stardom

Tony Danza gained widespread popularity for his roles on the hit television series Taxi (1978–1983), where he played Tony Banta, and Who’s the Boss? (1984–1992), portraying Tony Micelli. Both shows cemented his reputation as a charismatic and relatable television star. In addition to these iconic roles, Danza earned an Emmy nomination for his guest appearance on the legal drama The Practice.
