Trey Songz, born Tremaine Aldon Neverson in 1984, hails from Petersburg, Virginia. His mother, April Tucker, was just seventeen at the time of his birth. Raised in a military household by his mother and stepfather, Tremaine initially didn’t envision a future in music due to his shy nature. However, as he matured, others frequently complimented his singing voice, and by the age of 14, he recognized his own vocal talent. He was later discovered by record producer Troy Taylor during a talent show, which led to a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
Trey Songz launched his music career with the debut album I Gotta Make It in 2005, released through Atlantic Records. The album marked his entry into the R&B and hip hop music scenes. His follow-up album, Trey Day, featured the successful single “Can’t Help but Wait,” which became his first top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, solidifying his position in mainstream music.
His third studio album, Ready, released in 2009, included the hit single “Say Aah.” The song peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Trey Songz his first top 10 hit. Ready went on to receive a Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
In 2010, Trey Songz released his fourth studio project, Passion, Pain & Pleasure, which included the chart-topping single “Bottoms Up” featuring Nicki Minaj. “Bottoms Up” became Trey’s highest-charting single to date, further expanding his reach within contemporary R&B and hip hop.
