He started acting at the tender age of 9. His breakthrough role was the role of Micheal Sullivan Jr in the movie Road to perdition, where he starred as the son of Tom Hanks. His performance in this movie was very good, as it resulted in him getting the chance to act in the role of Martin Brewer, for a show called the 7th heaven. He must have been a very good actor, as in 2004, he got nominated for the Breakout Male Star in the Awards show, The Teen Choice Awards. He can also be spotted in Grizzly Rage, a David DeCoteau film, and a movie called ‘Solstice’, which was released in 2008. Other than these movies, he also appeared in the second season of the legendary Nathan Fillion show, Castle, although this appearance was only limited to one episode. Other than these, he could be spotted besides Owen Wilson in the movie called Hall Pass, which was released in 2011. He also played the werewolf Derek Hale in Teen Wolf, which was a television series. This role got his to be ranked at the spot of number 3 in BuddyTV’s list, which constitutes the sexiest men on TV, for the year of 2011. Also, it is reported that he has a role in the new film, Fifty Shades Darker.

He also won the 2003 Saturn Awards for the best performance by a young actor and the young artist award, in the year of 2003. Furthermore, he also won in 2014, the Teen Choice Awards, for his role in Teen Wolf.
