Born on April 29, 1970, to Robert Alexander Farrar Thurman and Nena Von Schlebrugge in Boston, Massachusetts, Uma Karuna Thurman was raised as a Buddhist and also spent some of her childhood days in Almora situated in India. Most of her childhood days were spent in Amherst situated in Massachusetts with her three brothers Dechen, Ganden and Mipam. She did her schooling from the Amherst Regional Middle School situated in Amherst. Her father also has a daughter named Tanya from his previous marriage. Uma Thurman is of both Buddhist origin from her father’s side and German, Swedish and Danish origin from her mother’s side. Her height is 5ft 11in. When she was very, young Thurman was diagnosed to be suffering from body dysmorphic disorder, and she was often teased for her unusual name and her height. While she attended Amherst Public School, her interest in acting was ignited. She then went on to study at the Northfield Mount Sermon School was later left it in favour of her acting career. She got the confidence to pursue the acting career when she was admired and noticed by some talent scouts who liked her performance as Abigail in The Crucible, a stage production.

After dropping out from Northfield Mount Sermon School, she transferred to Professional Children’s High School and also did a part-time job to support herself. She went to many auditions and finally her hard work and determination paid off. She got her debut role in 1987 was she was cast for the portrayal of Laura in the movie Kiss Daddy Goodnight. Her most popular role until now has been in the 2003 movie Kill Bill: Volume 1 and its sequel Kill Bill: Volume 2 in 2004. She is also popular for the portrayal of Mia Wallace in the 1994 movie Pulp Fiction. She has also acted is several movies which includes Johnny Be Good as Georgia Elkans in 1988, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen as Venus in 1988, Dangerous Liaisons as Cecile de Volanges in 1988, Henry and June as June Miller in 1990 , Robin Hood as Maid Marian in 1991, Jennifer 8 as Helena Robertson in 1992, Beautiful Girls as Andera in 1996, Batman & Robin as Dr. Pamela Isley in 1997, Les Miserables as Fantine in 1998, The Avengers as Emma Peel in 1998, Hysterical Blindness as Debby Miller in 2002 and the Birds Are Coming as Harriet Fox in 2016, to name a few.

She was nominated for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award for the portrayal of Mia Wallace in the 1994 movie Pulp Fiction. She was further nominated for the Golden Globe Award and BAFTA Award for the movie Kill Bill. She even won the Golden Globe Award for The Best Actress for her movie Hysterical Blindness.

In 1990, she got married to Gary Oldman, but the two got divorced in 1992. She got married again to Ethan Hawke in 1998 but got divorced in the year 2005. According to her biography, her salary is pretty high, and she has a net worth of $45 Million.
