Nelson still had a love for music and worked as a disc Jockey for several radio stations. Eventually he quit agriculture school so that he could fucus more on his music. Nelson spent the next few years moving around. He playing gigs at local clubs and worked to improve his song writing skills.. It was during this time that Nelson wrote some of his early songs, including "Night Life," "Crazy" and "Funny How Time Slips Away".

By 1960 Willie Nelson settled in Nashville Tenesse, the capital of country music. In 1964 he released his single I Never Cared for You. At this point in time, he was signed by RCA Victor. He soon gained success and in 1972 he formed the group called Outlaw Country. He was the most popular country musician at this point in time as he created his own genre of music.

In 1990 he had an issue with the IRS and all his assets were seizedbecause the IRS claimed he owed $32 million. Nelson released The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories? as a double album, all the profits made from this album went to the IRS. Many of his assets were auctioned of. However, many items were purchased by friends, who donated or rented his possessions to him for a nominal fee. He sued Price Waterhouse, claiming that they had put his money in illegal tax shelters. The lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount and Nelson cleared his debts to the IRS by 1993.

Apart from singing he has also acted in many movies such as Coming out of the Ice, Thief, Gone Fishin, Half Baked and much more. He has also written some books such as Willie: An Autobiography, The Facts of Life and some more. Nelson became the official spokesman of the Texas Roadhouse, a chain of steakhousesin 2002.

According to GQ Willie has spent nearly half his life as America’s most famous stoner. After several states legalized marijuana Willie announced that he was going to start his own marijuana brand, Willie's Reserve . He plans to open chain stores in the states where marijuana was legalized and to expanded if marijuana is legalized in other states. 

Nelson has been married four times through his life the first of which was with Martha Mathews in 1952 it lasted for 10 years. In 1991 he married his wife Annie D’Angelo with whom he is currently married. He also attends many charitable events and does activism. He is also a very vocal support of marijuana and wants it to be legalized. His net worth is estimated to be around $20 million dollars and if it wasn’t for the court case against him it would have been even more.
