At the time, J.P. served as an assistant coach at Shattuck-St. Mary's, a prestigious prep school in Faribault, Minnesota known for producing elite hockey talent. This connection helped Zach enroll with the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres, where he played four seasons of AAA hockey.

High School and Amateur Career

During his final two seasons at Shattuck-St. Mary's, Parise had an extraordinary record, tallying 146 goals and 194 assists in just 125 games. His outstanding performance garnered attention throughout the hockey community. One of his most notable achievements during this time was becoming the leading scorer at a major tournament in Alberta, Canada, where he was named Most Valuable Player in both 2000 and 2001.

In addition to his MVP honors, Parise received the title of Best All-Round Athlete during his senior year at Shattuck-St. Mary's, underlining both his athletic talent and his commitment to sportsmanship and discipline.

Collegiate Hockey and Rising Stardom

Parise continued his hockey career at the University of North Dakota, where he made an immediate impact. In one of his early appearances, he scored a hat-trick, becoming only the second freshman in the program’s recent history to do so. Over his college career, he accumulated 26 goals and 35 assists, reinforcing his status as a future NHL star.
