Zoe Kazan is an American actress, playwright, and screenwriter who was born on September 9, 1983, in Los Angeles, California in the United States. She is the daughter of Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord who are both screenwriters. She attended a private school called Wildwood School, followed by Windward School, then Marlborough School. Kazan attended Yale University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre in 2005. She was a member of the Manuscript Society during her time at Yale. Kazan made her film debut in 2003 when she played Samantha in "Swordswallowers and Thin Men". She went on to appear in an off-Broadway production of "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" in 2006. Kazan also guest-starred in an episode of the television series "Medium" starring Patricia Arquette. She began her career as a playwright when she wrote "Absalom" in 2009.
The same year, Kazan appeared as Meryl Streep's daughter in the comedy "It's Complicated". Not long after, Kazan wrote the screenplay for the romantic comedy film "Ruby Sparks" which she also appeared in. Kazan began dating actor Paul Dano in 2007 and they have a daughter together named Alma who was born in August of 2018.
