Following his stint in county cricket, Petersen returned to South Africa to play for the Highveld Lions, a team in the domestic circuit. He also earned a recall to the national side and played in a Test match against Sri Lanka, replacing Ashwell Prince.
In 2016, Alviro Petersen was implicated in a match-fixing investigation related to the 2015–16 Ram Slam T20 Challenge. While he denied any involvement in fixing matches, he admitted to failing to report knowledge of the activities, which led to a two-year ban from all cricketing activities issued by Cricket South Africa. Despite the controversy, he maintained his innocence regarding active participation in the fixing.
Petersen announced his retirement from international cricket after South Africa’s series against the West Indies in 2015. He concluded his career with a respectable record across all three formats of the game.
Alviro Petersen is married to Samantha Petersen. Details regarding his net worth have not been publicly disclosed.
