Amanda Detmer is an American actress known for her roles in both film and television. She was born in Contra Costa County, California, and raised in the city of Chico. Her mother, Susan Thurmon, was a teacher, while her father, Melvin Lester Detmer, performed as a singing cowboy. Amanda pursued her undergraduate education at California State University, Chico, before earning a Master of Fine Arts from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. With this strong academic foundation in drama, she launched her professional acting career shortly afterward.

Acting Career

Detmer made her television debut in 1995 in the TV movie Stolen Innocence. She transitioned to the big screen with her theatrical debut in the 1999 film Drop Dead Gorgeous, where she played Miss Minneapolis in the comedy centered on a beauty pageant. Her subsequent film credits include Big Fat Liar, The Majestic, Saving Silverman, Boys and Girls, and the horror thriller Final Destination.

In addition to her film work, Detmer has had significant roles on television. She appeared in the TV movie Proof of Lies and had recurring appearances in series such as Private Practice and What About Brian. Known for her range and charm, Detmer has maintained a steady presence in the entertainment industry for over two decades.
