Anna Katherine Popplewell was born on December 16, 1988, in London, England. She comes from a family with notable achievements in various professional fields. Her father, Andrew Popplewell, is a Court of Appeal judge, and her mother, Debra Lomas, is a dermatologist. Her siblings, Lulu and Freddie Popplewell, have also pursued acting in varying capacities. Early Acting Career
Popplewell began acting at the age of six and took drama classes at the Allsorts Drama School. Her first television appearance was in a 1998 adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel Frenchman’s Creek. She continued to build her resume with supporting roles in several films and TV shows throughout her early teens.
Her first film role was in the 1999 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park, where she played the character Betsey. She went on to appear in the family film The Little Vampire (2000) and the critically acclaimed Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003), directed by Peter Webber. In the latter, she worked alongside notable actors such as Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth. The film had a budget of approximately $10 million and grossed over $30 million globally.
The Chronicles of Narnia and International Recognition
Popplewell achieved significant fame with her role as Susan Pevensie in the film adaptations of C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia. She starred in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) and Prince Caspian (2008), while making a brief cameo appearance in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010). The Narnia franchise was a commercial success, collectively earning hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide. Her portrayal of Susan brought her considerable international attention and helped establish her acting career.
