Asuka is a Japanese professional wrestler whose real name is Kanako Urai but she goes by her ring name Asuka. She was born on September 26, 1981, in Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Asuka graduated from the Osaka University of Arts Junior College where she pursued her passion for graphic design. She has held a number of business ventures ranging from writing for Xbox Magazine to designing graphics for Nintendo DS. Asuka even owns a hair salon named Another Heaven which is located in Yokohama, Japan. Growing up, Asuka participated in sports including badminton and figure skating. She began her professional wrestling career in the AtoZ promotion in June 2004. She wrestled for a number of promoters as a freelancer until she was signed to a developmental deal with WWE in August 2015.
Asuka spent two years in WWE's developmental branch NXT where she won an NXT Women's Championship which she held for 510 days, the longest of any title in WWE's post-national expansion era. She also won CBS Sports WWE Match of the Year award in 2018 for her match against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair on TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. Besides her wrestling career, Asuka has released three gravure DVDs titled "Manifesto", "Manifesto II", and "Manifesto Final".
