William George Hemmer was born on November 14, 1964. He was born to William R. Hemmer, a retired executive salesman for Serta Mattresses and Georganne M. Knittle, a former high school teacher. He is the middle child and second son of the Hemmers' five children.

Hemmer attended Our Lady of Victory, a Cincinnati Catholic school before graduating from Elder High School. During his senior year at Elder, Hemmer and a friend started a radio program where they would play fifteen minutes of music before classes began. He credits his time as the high school disc jockey for starting his passion for broadcasting. Hemmer received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from Miami University, located in Oxford, Ohio. While at Miami University, he joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and studied in Europe at the Miami University Dolibois European Center, which was located in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.

Personal Life

Hemmer is a devout Roman Catholic and once revealed what makes him the man he is saying, "I don’t think there was one aspect of me that wasn’t shaped by my family, whether it was my parents or my brother and sisters. We were all close in age. We were close at home."

He has had a number of relationships but the one most known was his relationship with Canadian model Dara Tomanovich. At the age of 55, Bill is still not married but the very attractive and charming charisma he displays has garnered him a huge following. He is thought to be one of the most desirable anchormen in American Television. Some of his daily viewers noticed a sudden increase in flirting between him and his co-anchor Martha Mac Callum but nothing serious developed between them. Bill Hemmer has stated in one of his interviews that he would like to have a child in the future.

Bill has never publicly confirmed or denied any affair, girlfriend or marriage other than Dara Tomanovich. It was during a live news session that Bill revealed some big news confirming that he was in a relationship. He proudly showed the picture of his girlfriend, Dara Tomanovich, while on air. Not only did he reveal the relationship, he also personally took her to the building's top floor. There, he took a photograph of her and announced to the world that very soon that he was going to get married to his soul mate. Sadly, the couple split up in 2013, rumors were that the cause of their break up was fear of commitment.

Early Career

While in college, Hemmer interned as a radio disc jockey for Mama Jazz at WMUB-FM and later at the iconic WOXY-FM, which is considered to be America's first alternative music station. He then took on an internship at Cincinnati's NBC affiliate. He started in sports production at WLWT-TV in the mid-1980s where he realized his passion for live television.

During his senior year at Miami University, Hemmer was offered a position at WLWT-TV as a sports producer. Soon after, he went to the CBS affiliate WCPO-TV as the weekend sports anchor. Afterward, he went to the CBS affiliate WCPO-TV as the main news presenter on the weekends. When Bill reached the age of 26, he decided to take a long break from the news so that he could backpack around the world traveling China, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Egypt, Israel, and Eastern Europe. Hemmer also did some voluntary work in India.

During his long trips around the world, Hemmer made a small documentary about the cities he visited. This documentary, which was called “Bill’s Excellent Adventure” won two regional Emmys, Best Entertainment and Best Host. When he returned he worked a short period of time as a news reporter for the WCPO channel, He was then offered a position at the international headquarters of CNN in Atlanta.
