Brad Maddox is the WWE ring name of American professional wrestler and former referee Tyler Kluttz. He was born on May 4, 1984, in Tega Cay, South Carolina. Kluttz began his professional wrestling training in 2008 under the guidance of veteran trainer Rip Rogers at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), a well-known developmental promotion for aspiring WWE talent.
His in-ring debut occurred on April 2, 2008, during an OVW taping, where he performed under the name Brad Wellington. Kluttz secured his first match victory on October 1, 2008, in an eight-man tag team match. He later adopted the ring name Brad Maddox, making his debut under this persona on August 5, 2010, for Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), WWE's then-developmental territory.
Under the name Brad Maddox, Kluttz transitioned through various roles in WWE. Although his time as an active wrestler on the main roster was limited, he appeared in several storyline-driven segments. At WrestleMania XXX in April 2014, Maddox participated in the inaugural Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but he was eliminated early in the match by Cody Rhodes and The Great Khali.
Frustrated by a lack of opportunities to break out as an in-ring performer, Maddox moved into other roles within WWE. He began working as a referee and eventually became the assistant to then–Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero. Following Guerrero’s on-screen departure, Maddox was appointed as the new General Manager of WWE’s flagship program, Raw. His time as an authority figure allowed him to remain visible on television, even as his wrestling appearances diminished.
