Early Life and Education

Sandra Colleen Waites, professionally known as Cassandra Harris, was born on December 15, 1948, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, to Roma and Walter Waites. Raised in Sydney, Cassandra developed a passion for acting during her early childhood. In her teen years, her family briefly relocated to the United States, further broadening her exposure to the performing arts.

At the age of 12, Harris began her formal acting training. She enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) under the name Sandra Gleeson, dedicating herself to becoming a professional actress. She participated in various acting courses and auditions, working diligently to build her craft and gain stage experience.

Stage and Screen Career

Cassandra Harris made her stage debut in 1964 in the Australian production of the play Boeing-Boeing, remaining part of the cast until 1965. Her performance in this popular farce helped her gain recognition in the Sydney theatre community and led to further opportunities in television and film.

Her early television appearances included secondary roles in series such as Space: 1999, Shadows, and Enemy at the Door. Harris transitioned to film in 1978 with a role in The Greek Tycoon, where she played a character named Cassandra. In 1980, she appeared in the crime caper Rough Cut as Mrs. Lloyd Palmer.

Harris is perhaps best known for her role as Countess Lisl von Schlaf in the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only. The character was the ill-fated mistress of Milos Colombo. During filming, her then-husband Pierce Brosnan met producer Albert R. Broccoli, a connection that played a significant role in Brosnan’s later casting as James Bond.

Her final on-screen appearances were in several episodes of the television series Remington Steele, in which she acted alongside Brosnan.
