Charlie Stayt

Career

Charlie Stayt is a familiar face on the BBC network as the co-host of 'BBC Breakfast' with Susanne Reid. He began his career in broadcasting on a commercial radio station in his hometown of Gloucestershire, before moving to television and spending his professional career as a journalist, reporter, and presenter of various programs, including live reality TV shows. He then worked in London at Capital Radio on their award-winning news program, The Way It Is, as well as for LBC and BBC Radio 5 Live. This radio experience provided Charlie Stayt with a solid foundation to launch his television career, which began in 1995 with the Independent Television Network (ITN). He reported for Five News and presented prime-time bulletins and half-hour live debate programs for the show. He gained some notoriety when he anchored coverage of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001. He worked for ITN as both a correspondent and as a presenter for more than ten years.

At Sky News, Charlie has presented current affairs programs and hosted live reality TV programs known as Jailbreak and Are You Telepathic?. In 2006, Charlie began working on the show BBC Breakfast as a relief presenter. Not long after his trial stint, he became the regular presenter from Friday to Sunday. He could be seen on both BBC One and BBC News as the weekend presenter of the early morning news programs ever since January 2008. When the studio moved its location to Salford, he moved to the Thursday to Saturday slot co-presenting with Naga Muchetty and occasionally standing in for the other weekday host, Bill Turnbull. In August 2016, Charlie did a short stint on an ITV Studios production of a British game show called Countdown, broadcast on Channel 4 for several episodes. Interviewing The Stars of the World

Charlie Stayt has a fun, self-deprecating sense of humor which has served him well in the variety of programs he has hosted. His easy-going personality has also been beneficial in his successful marriage and other relationships. He has been the subject of several interviews in which he tells stories about his life, cracks jokes, and shares advice with his audience and fans. An interesting story from 2016 was his interview with the famous performer and musical artist Lady Gaga. While other celebrities interviewed by Charlie seem to be animated and pleased to be discussing things with the popular host, Lady Gaga was less than kind during her appearance on BBC Breakfast. She refused to speak, leaving many awkward minutes of silence and claiming that she "had nothing to say." In other interviews with notable subjects, Charlie has entertained and delighted his audiences. In his interview with Jamiroquai, he was allowed to try on the artist's electronic headgear. In another interview, he allegedly mortified his children by giving them a "shout out" while interviewing the famous star, Stormzy.
