Chris Rea is known as a British rock and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is most famous for his distinctive, husky-gravel voice and unique slide guitar playing.
Background
Christopher Anton Rea was born on March 4, 1951 in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom.
Career
The book entitled Guinness Rockopedia described Chris as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart". The famous British singer and guitarist Chris Rea enjoyed a great run of popularity in Europe during the late '80s and early '90s.
Chris started out performing his music with a local band called Magdalene, taking the place of David Coverdale. The band ended up winning a national talent contest in 1975 as the Beautiful Losers. They still failed to get a record contract even after the important victory. Rea then left the band because he didn’t see a successful future with them. He recorded the album Whatever Happened to Benny Santini? which was an allusion to a discarded stage name. The album went gold on the strength of the U.S. Top 20 hit "Fool (If You Think It's Over)." The single was able to hit the top of charts and confirmed Chris’ wise decision to leave his band and go solo. He had the talent on his own to make it in the music industry.
