Chris Stapleton is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer who was born on April 15, 1978, in Lexington, Kentucky, in the United States. Stapleton grew up in a small town of Staffordsville, Kentucky with his mother Carol J. Mace and Herbert Joseph Stapleton, Jr who come from a long line of coal miners. He attended Staffordsville, Kentucky where he played football and was his class salutatorian. Upon graduating high school, Stapleton went on to attend Vanderbilt University where he pursued a degree in engineering but a year later he dropped out. Stapleton moved to Nashville, Tennesse to pursue a career in music in 2001. He was signed with the publishing house Sea Gayle Music as a songwriter soon after arriving in Nashville. By 2007, Stapleton became the lead singer of a bluegrass group called The Steeldrivers. The group saw massive success with having two hit records peak at number 2 on the bluegrass chart. In 2010, Stapleton left The Steeldrivers to create his own group called The Jompson Brothers. In 2013, he signed as a solo artist to Mercury Nashville, a division of Universal Music Group Nashville.
He went on to collaborate with major recording artists including Justin Timberlake, Marty Stuart, and Brad Paisley. Stapleton has received five Grammy Awards, seven Academy of Country Music Awards, and ten Country Music Association Awards. He married singer-songwriter Morgane Stapleton and the couple had four children together and are expecting a fifth. They currently reside in Nashville, Tennesse.
