Clifton Powell was born on March 16, 1956 in Washington, D.C. He is an American comedian and actor noted for his many remarkable films like Next Friday, Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, Rush Hour, and Just Another Day.
Upbringing
Clifton grew up in the Mayfair Mansions. As a child, he was somewhat active and had difficulties following rules. As a student, he was transferred from Dematha High School to St. Anthony's High School probably due to his behavior and his tendency to disobey his teachers.
Acting Career
Clifton was a very dedicated professional, a claim that is easily proved thanks to his long filmography list. Clifton has been in the cast of more than one hundred films since the beginning of his career in the 80s. A majority of those films went on to become great successes and box office hits. Although the success part was not solely due to Powell, but it seems safe to conclude that he was a key ingredient to the recipe.
He was cast as main antagonist in a Bounce TV first prime time soap opera. And as if making a name in both movies and TV series wasn’t enough, Clifton also took part in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, as Big Smoke.
Sexual Assault Case
Clinton has had to deal with legal trouble. In 2011, Kiayante Myers, a Louisiana woman accused Powell of raping her in a hotel room. The police did not make any progress in the case due to lack of evidence so she brought the case to the federal court. It was said that she felt uncomfortable with the way he treated her and asked him to stop. However, Powell ignored her and raped her. She filed a complaint asking for compensation for medical and legal expenses, special damages for rape, sexual assault and battery.
Her complaint stated: "Defendant Powell is a professional actor that has participated in several movies during his career. On August 28, 2011, at approximately 10:00 p.m., defendant Powell came into Harrah's Casino, where the plaintiff is employed as a cocktail waitress. The plaintiff and defendant have known one another for approximately two years. After a brief encounter, defendant Powell asked when she would be getting off from work and if she would like to go out afterward. Plaintiff agreed to defendant Powell's request and after getting off from work around midnight, plaintiff met defendant Powell outside of the casino and together went to the W Hotel Bar for drinks.
After the drinks at The W Hotel, both plaintiff and defendant went to The International House Hotel at 221 Camp Street, where defendant Powell was a registered guest. After she entered his hotel room, defendant Powell asked plaintiff to take her pants off so that he could perform oral sex, which led to a consensual sexual relation. Later that same day, when plaintiff and defendant Powell awoke, defendant Powell wanted to engage in sexual relations again, but plaintiff declined his offer, informing him that he was too rough with her last time."
