Daniel Wroughton Craig was born on March 2, 1968, in Chester, England. He spent much of his upbringing near Liverpool and developed an early appreciation for the performing arts, frequently attending theater performances with his mother and sisters. Influenced by his mother’s circle of actor friends, Craig became drawn to the acting profession.
At age 16, Craig moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre. He later studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 1991. He made his film debut a year later in The Power of One (1992), a period drama set in South Africa.
