Lashana Lynch is a British actress best known for making history as the first Black woman to portray a 007 agent in the James Bond film franchise.
Lashana Rasheda Lynch was born on November 27, 1987, in London, United Kingdom. She is of Jamaican descent and grew up with aspirations of becoming a singer-songwriter. As a teenager, she actively participated in music competitions, including Urban Voice, where she was a finalist in 2001. She later became a finalist in the UK Unsigned music competition and went on to win its singer-songwriter category. Despite her early interest in music, Lynch shifted her focus to acting and graduated from the Arts Educational Schools (ArtsEd) in London with a BA in Acting.
Lashana Lynch made her film debut in the 2012 sports drama Fast Girls, in which she portrayed a competitive sprinter. Preparing for the physically demanding role involved rigorous training—up to four hours a day—over a ten-week period to convincingly portray a world-class athlete. The role showcased her dedication and physical commitment to her craft.
She continued to build her filmography with a supporting role in the 2013 comedy Powder Room, playing the character Laura. However, her breakthrough came in 2019 when she played Maria Rambeau, a fighter pilot and close friend to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, in Marvel Studios’ blockbuster Captain Marvel.
