Dean Compton

One of Madge’s roles that is lesser-known but is still iconic is her involvement in the Disney classic, The Lion King. Not too many members of the public or film press know that she was in the movie because of the nature of voice acting. Without a face to put to the role, it is hard to remember who played the voice of a cartoon. Madge was the voice actress of Sarabi who was a lioness and mother of the lead character, Simba. She was the counterpart of Simba’s father, Mufasa who was voiced by legendary actor, James Earl Jones. Madge had worked with James Earl Jones previously in Coming to America. The two continued to have dynamic chemistry even though their first film together was live action and their second film together was an animation. The cartoon took place in the lands of Africa. The producers at Disney felt Madge would be great for the role because of her Jamaican roots.
