Deborah Feyerick grew up in Paris and later moved to the United States and attended the Columbia University. She received her bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 1987 at the Barnard College in the university situated in Manhattan. While studying in college, she worked as news assistant at NBC.

Profession

Feyerick started her career in journalism when she joined as researcher in GQ magazine, soon after her graduation. She travelled to all parts of the world including Europe, Asia Minor, Soviet Union, Middle East and North Africa for a year and then shifted to London and later on Norway. In Norway, she started working for a video production company sponsored by Millicom, a media giant in Sweden. She then worked as anchor and reporter for NY1 News. She also worked for a short period as special correspondent at Life Magazine, where she covered the riots in Los Angeles and the 50th anniversary of Pearl Harbor bombing. She then joined CNN in 2000 and at present is the national correspondent based in New York specializing in crime, terrorism, and other breaking news.

Awards

Feyerick’s broadcasting career has been recognized and honored by several organizations including the New York Association of Black Journalists and the American Muslim Union, who designated her as an ‘Outstanding Journalist’. She was part of CNN’s investigative team on 9/11 to be honored with the National Headliner award. She also received Emmy nominations for her work on the September 11 attacks and the Christmas day Bomber. The other awards she received include the Gracie award for her report on the children born to sperm donors and Peabody Awards for the 2008 presidential campaign and the report on Hurricane Katrina. She has also received Emmy nominations for her work on AIDS.

Deborah Feyerick has been reporting major news events including Osama bin laden killing, the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary school, the bombing during the Boston Marathon, and the subsequent arrest of the Boston Bomber. She is a board member of the organization ‘Video Volunteers’ based in India and the non-profit organization ‘Living Beyond Belief’. Earlier in 2013, Feyerick was involved in a controversy when she linked the falling of asteroids to global warming.
