Denis Villeneuve is a French Canadian film director and writer and four-time recipient of the Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction. Denis Villeneuve is known internationally for directing the critically acclaimed films Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Denis Villeneuve was born on October 3, 1967, in Trois-Rivieres, Canada. He attended the Seminaire Saint-Joseph de Trois-Rivieres and went on to study at the Universite du Quebec a Montreal. Villeneuve began his career making short films, and in 1991, he won the Radio-Canada’s youth film competition known as La Course Europe-Asie. His directorial debut film August 32nd on Earth (1998) premiered at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival and was selected as the Canadian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 71st Academy Awards. Villeneuve’s crime thriller film, Sicario, starred Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin and grossed nearly eighty million dollars worldwide.

His eighth film, Arrival (2016), grossed two hundred and three million dollars worldwide and was selected by the American Film Institute as one of ten films of the year. Villeneuve is married to Tanya Lapointe, a reporter and actress, and he has three children from a previous relationship. Tanya Lapointe is known for her work on Arrival (2016) and Blade Runner 2049 (2018). Denis Villeneuve’s next project is said to be the adaptation of the crime novel, The Son, written by Norwegian novelist Jo Nesbo.
