Richard Ayoade is a British actor, comedian, and presenter who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of the socially awkward IT technician in the television series The IT Crowd, for which he was awarded the 2014 BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance. Richard Ellef Ayoade was born on June 12, 1977, in Hammersmith, London; his father is Nigerian and his mother in Norwegian. Ayoade attended St Catherine’s College, Cambridge, where he served as president for the Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club and was awarded the Martin Steele Prize for play production. Richard published his first book, Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey, in October of 2014. Ayoade is the host of the successful British game show, The Crystal Maze, since 2017. His second book, The Grip of Film, was published in October of 2017.
He has also guest hosted number of episodes of the show Have I Got News for You. In 2007, Richard Ayoade married the English film actress, Lydia Fox. The couple has three children and live in East Dulwich in the London Borough of Southwark in England. Richard Ayoade will play a supporting role in the upcoming two-part romantic mystery film, The Souvenir, which will feature Robert Pattinson in the lead role.
