Eddie Cahill, born Edmund Patrick Cahill in 1978, is an American actor known for a variety of television and film roles. He was born in New York City and is the middle child in a family of three, with one older and one younger sister. His father, of Irish descent, worked as a stockbroker, while his mother, of Italian descent, was an elementary school teacher.
Cahill graduated from Byram Hills High School in Armonk, New York, in 1996. He later attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs before enrolling at the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School, part of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
In 2000, Eddie Cahill appeared in the Off-Broadway production of Nicky Silver's play The Altruists. This performance helped launch his television career. He quickly gained attention with guest appearances on popular TV series such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Felicity, and Sex and the City.
Cahill garnered broader recognition for his recurring role as Tag Jones, the assistant and brief romantic interest of Rachel Green, in the NBC sitcom Friends. In 2002, he starred in the short-lived WB drama Glory Days.
In 2004, Cahill portrayed goaltender Jim Craig in the sports drama film Miracle, which tells the story of the U.S. men's hockey team’s win at the 1980 Winter Olympics. Despite having no prior experience as a goaltender, Cahill trained for the role. Many of the complex goalie action sequences were performed by retired NHL goalie Bill Ranford, who served as Cahill’s double. Cahill, however, did perform several key scenes himself.
