Aubrey Plaza is an American actress, comedian, and producer best known for her breakout role as April Ludgate on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.
Aubrey Christina Plaza was born on June 26, 1984, in Wilmington, Delaware. She was named after the 1972 song "Aubrey" by the soft rock band Bread. Her father, David Plaza, is of Puerto Rican descent and worked as a financial advisor, while her mother, Bernadette, who is of Irish and English ancestry, is an attorney. Raised in a Catholic household, Aubrey grew up alongside her two younger sisters, Renee and Natalie.
Plaza began her comedy career in 2004, performing improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. She also appeared in a variety of other comedy venues and developed a unique deadpan style that contributed to her rise in the industry.
In 2008, she appeared in the online prank video Mobile Desktop as part of a sketch from the New York-based comedy group Improv Everywhere. That same year, she appeared in the web series The Jeannie Tate Show.
