John Mellencamp, preferred to behave, more mature than his age. He started his first band at the age of fourteen and married his girlfriend, at the age of 18. He graduated from Vincennes University. He started his career by working as a musician in Local Bands and later, came to New York. John Mellencamp, whose full name is John Couger Mellencamp was born on 7th of October, 1951. Today, he is a famously known as an American Rock singer, Musician, painter as well as a song writer. John Mellencamp also attempted to a work as an actor occasionally. The journey of John Mellencamp towards fame and success took speed in 1980’s. Almost 40 million albums have been sold by him. With this, a benchmark has been created by John. He has sang highest number of solo tracks. John got nominated for Grammy awards for thirteen times, which he won once.

As a child, John was born with a condition called spina bifida, for which was corrected by a surgeon when he was still an infant. Ever since his childhood, he had a passion for music. At a very young age of fourteen, he established his first band, Crepe Soul, and later played in the local bands Trash, Snakepit Banana Barn and the Mason Brothers. He also worked with many local bands and later, he got a job in Seymour Telephone Installations. Certainly, doing a job in a telephone installation firm, was not enough for <a href="/biography/john-mellencamp">Mr</a> Mellencamp.  Therefore, he decided to pursue his musical career and came to New York, hoping to get a music contract. John decided to get married to his girlfriend Priscilla Esterline, when he was just eighteen, while she was expecting a baby, and became a father three months after he completed high school. Michelle Mellencamp, daughter of John Mellencamp became a mother when she was 19 years old making John, a grandfather, when he turned 37.

He first got married to Priscilla Esterline in 1970 and they got divorced in 1981. He has two daughters from his second marriage with Victoria Granucci from the 8 years of relationship as a couple. John has five children in total from a result of his three marriages. His daughter Michelle with his ex wife Priscilla Esterline, daughters Teddi Jo and Justice his ex wife Victoria Granucci, and sons Hud and Speck with his ex wife <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaine_Irwin">Elaine Irwin</a>.

Controversies have always been inseparable part of John Mellencamp’s life. He also had an extra marital affair going on with <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Ryan">actress</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Ryan">Meg Ryan</a>, which officially became public after he got a divorce from his third wife. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Ryan">Meg Ryan</a> was married to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Quaid">actor</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Quaid">Dennis Quaid</a> and they have a son. She and her husband sought a divorce in 2011. The two seem to have a on and off again relationship. It was reported in the media that John Mellencamp and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Ryan">Meg Ryan</a> stopped seeing each other in the summer of 2014, after dating for over three years. But in October 2014, it was revealed that Mellencamp and Ryan were back together once again. In the summer of 2015, it was reported they broke up again.

In September 2015, Mellencamp began a new relationship with former <a href="/biography/christie-brinkley">supermodel</a> <a href="/biography/christie-brinkley">Christie Brinkley</a>. In August 2016, the couple announced their separation after almost a year of dating. To no ones surprise, in July 2017 it was reported Mellencamp and Ryan have reunited once again and are back seeing each other.

John Mellencamp decided to take the responsibility of marriage at a very young age, which failed. His other two attempts of getting rebounded with a marital relationship didn’t work well. Many ups and downs were faced by John Mellencamp, to reach at the peak point of success and stardom. Maybe that was one of the reasons for giving less time to family and kids and not being able to handle marriages.

John Mellencamp has had a very successful career in his life. He has put out numerous albums and solo tracks that have all reached critical acclaim. His most notable award is his Grammy win for Best Male Rock Performer for "Hurts So Good" in 1983. He has also been nominated for 12 other Grammys in his career.

John was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2008. The induction ceremony took place in New York City on March 10, 2008, and Mellencamp was inducted by his good <a href="/biography/billy-joel">friend</a> <a href="/biography/billy-joel">Billy Joel</a>. The two had been friends for years, and <a href="/biography/billy-joel">Billy Joel</a> even asked John to induct him when he was inducted back in 1999, but unfortunately John had made prior plans and was unable to.

John has also been very vocal on his political views. He was one of the first famous celebrities to come out against the Iraq war. He also has had no problems what so ever criticizing presidents or other politicians when they do things he disagrees with. He also made songs criticizing <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush">George W. Bush</a> in the 2000's. John being a very unapologetic liberal, supported both <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama">Barack Obama</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillary_Clinton">Hillary Clinton</a> during the their primaries, even going as far as to perform for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama">Barack Obama</a> at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama">Obama</a> inaugural celebration at the Lincoln Memorial.
