Kyle Korver was born in Paramount, California, and is the eldest of four children born to Laine and Kevin Korver. He spent his early years in the Los Angeles area, where he became a devoted Los Angeles Lakers fan. Inspired by watching Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and the "Showtime" Lakers, Kyle developed a deep passion for basketball at a young age.
In 1993, the Korver family relocated to Pella, Iowa. Kyle attended Pella High School, where he began to make a name for himself as a standout basketball player. His family has deep basketball roots: his brothers—Klayton, Kaleb, and Kirk—all played Division I college basketball. Kaleb played for Creighton, Klayton featured for Drake, and Kirk played for the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Their mother, Laine, was also a talented basketball player and once scored 74 points in a single high school game. Kyle’s father, Kevin, is a pastor in Pella, Iowa, and his uncle, Kris Korver, is the head basketball coach at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. A cousin, Kari Korver, played for the UCLA women’s basketball team.
Kyle Korver played college basketball at Creighton University, where he enjoyed a highly successful four-year career. As a freshman, he was named to the All-Newcomer, All-Freshman, and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) All-Bench teams. That same year, he shot an impressive 43.4% from three-point range and 89.5% from the free-throw line.
In his sophomore year, he earned Second Team All-MVC honors and averaged 14.6 points per game, helping lead the Bluejays to a conference tournament championship. As a junior, Korver played a key role in leading Creighton to both the regular-season and conference tournament MVC titles. He was named MVC Player of the Year and received honorable mention All-American honors.
By the end of his college career, Korver ranked fourth all-time in scoring at Creighton with 1,801 points. He also held school records for most three-pointers made and highest career three-point shooting percentage, cementing his reputation as one of the most accurate long-range shooters in NCAA history.
Kyle Korver was selected 51st overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets, but his draft rights were immediately traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. Over the course of his NBA career, he played for several teams, including the Utah Jazz, Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Milwaukee Bucks.
While with the Atlanta Hawks, Korver earned his first and only NBA All-Star selection in 2015. Known for his exceptional three-point shooting, he set the NBA single-season record for highest three-point field goal percentage (.536) during the 2009–2010 season while playing for the Utah Jazz. He also once held the league record for most consecutive games with a made three-point field goal, a testament to his consistency and shooting prowess.
Kyle Korver is married to Juliet Richardson, a professional singer. The couple has a daughter named Kyra Elyse. Off the court, he is known for his philanthropic efforts through the Kyle Korver Foundation, which supports community development initiatives in areas such as education, poverty relief, and youth empowerment.
In 2012, Korver earned a salary of approximately $5 million. He has faced injuries during his career, including undergoing surgery for an ankle injury, but remained a reliable and respected veteran presence throughout his NBA tenure.
