Lahmard Tate was born on January 7, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is the middle of three brothers—Larron, the eldest, and Larenz, the youngest. All three Tate brothers have pursued acting careers. He is the son of Larry and Peggy Tate.
Lahmard Tate began his acting career with a role in the 1987 film Barfly. He continued to build his filmography throughout the early 1990s with appearances in movies such as Across the Tracks (1991) and Jason's Lyric (1994). He also appeared in the Showtime television special Without a Pass (1991–1992), the Fox TV movie Seeds of Tragedy (1991), and the sitcom Roc (1991–1994).
