Mark Valley, an American television and film actor, was born in 1964 in Ogdensburg, New York. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and mathematics. Following his graduation, Valley served in the U.S. Army, with postings in Berlin where he also played rugby for the Berlin Yanks Rugby Football Club and represented the U.S. military in competitive rugby. He served during the Gulf War.
Valley has a daughter named Sherri, born in 1987. In 2008, he married actress Anna Torv, his co-star on the television series Fringe. The marriage lasted about a year before the couple divorced.
While still enlisted in the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany, Valley landed his first acting role in the television film The Innocent (1993). In 2008, Valley played FBI agent John Scott in the science fiction series Fringe. He later assumed the lead role of Christopher Chance in Fox’s action-drama series Human Target. In 2012, he joined the main cast of ABC's Body of Proof as Detective Tommy Sullivan, a former love interest of lead character Megan Hunt, played by Dana Delany. Valley and Delany had previously co-starred in the short-lived drama Pasadena.
In addition to his extensive television work, Mark Valley has appeared in numerous films. His film credits include Jericho, Big Time, The Next Best Thing, The Siege, Some Girl, Breast Men, Live!, Shrek the Third (voice role), Zero Dark Thirty, Stolen, Live by Night, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (voice role), and Ferdinand.
